According to Forbes, Humana is launching a joint venture with equity giant Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe to develop primary care centers. The $600 million move will allow the centers to help tend seniors insured by Medicare Advantage plans. This isn’t the only partnership in recent times, with Humana teaming up with Walgreens Boots Alliance. Humana’s Partners in Primary Care subsidiary will be the ones managing the clinics. This adds on to the multiple clinics they already operate in multiple US markets. Their job will be to make sure seniors in MA plans are receiving quality medical treatment at a lowcost.
Welsh Carson & Humana Team Up
Humana Partners in Primary Care Centers offer physicians, nurse practitioners “nurse care coaches,” clinical pharmacists, behavioral health specialists, and social workers. These resources will be available to all seniors with MA plans. While already operating 47 care centers throughout Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Florida. They currently treat about 40,000 seniors enrolled in multiple MA plans. Through the venture, they will be able to continue to expand their core model and help more seniors.
Why The Partnership?
Welsh Carson will be the majority owner of the venture while Humana will hold an undisclosed minority stake. Humana and Welsh, Carson said in their statement “The new joint venture is expected to more than double Partners in Primary Care’s footprint of senior-focused primary care centers over the next three years,”. The collaboration gives the company another way to use more of the Medicare premium dollar that’s been given by the federal government. In return, this provides more benefits to the consumer and helps better manage their health.
How The Partnership Will Help Senior Health
“Partners in Primary Care is well-positioned to meet the health needs of the growing senior population with our integrated primary care platform,” Renee’ Buckingham, segment president of Humana’s care delivery organization said. “Our integrated, whole-person, value-based care model comprehensively and proactively address chronic conditions, wellness and social determinants of health….”
This collaboration between Humana and Welsh Carson is sure to help many seniors with the confusion of their MA plans. It also will also provide better preventive care and health management. It will be interesting to see how much Humana’s Partners in Primary Care expands due to the venture and how many more seniors will be taken care of.
