Have you been looking to get into the insurance game but don’t know how? Are you looking to build a recession-proof career that provides unlimited upside potential? Don’t worry, we got you covered. In this guide, I will tell you how to get an insurance license in Florida, and a few tools to get you started in the insurance game, let’s get straight into it!

Before starting, ensure you meet these basic criteria:

- Be a legal Florida resident.
- Be a U.S. citizen or hold legal work authorization.
- Not be employed by the VA or a state service office.
- Not currently hold a resident license in another state.
Step 2: Meet Prerequisites
You’ll need to complete one of the following pathways to qualify:

- Enroll in and complete a 40-hour state-approved course on health insurance.
- Pass the state licensing exam.
- Earn an Approved Designation
Achieve a professional designation such as:
- Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS)

- Health Insurance Associate (HIA)
- Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC)
- Registered Health Underwriter (RHU)
- Obtain a College Degree
Have a degree that includes nine credit hours of insurance instruction with a focus on health insurance. This prerequisite exempts you from the state exam.

- Apply within 90 days: No exam required.
- Apply after 90 days: You must pass the state exam unless your license is from a reciprocal state.
- Provide a CLU Designation
Submit proof of a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation to waive the exam requirement.
Step 3: Apply Online
Complete the online application, answer the required questions, and pay the associated fees.
Step 4: Submit Proof of Prerequisites
Send your course or proof of designation to the licensing department. Some providers will automatically submit proof on your behalf.
Step 5: Get Fingerprinted
Fingerprinting is a required step for all applicants. Fees are separate and paid to the fingerprinting vendor.
Step 6: Pass the Exam
If applicable, schedule and pass the state exam. Details will be sent to your email after application approval.
