A career in the insurance business has yielded positive results and a stable foundation for LaTrice Jeter, who began her insurance employment over 20 years ago. She started as a regional marketing manager for UnitedHealth Group and later became a brokerage account manager. Her next venture was with a field marketing organization (FMO), HealthPlanOne, where she began selling products to customers and worked her way up to a director role. Eventually, she became a vice president of business development.
Finding the Right FMO
In 2018, LaTrice Jeter started her agency, Simplified Insurance Solutions, and contracted with a prominent FMO, which, according to LaTrice, was initially helpful. Yet, not long after, that FMO did not offer her much assistance. She was on her own. Flash forward to the spring of 2024, and LaTrice happened to meet up with industry colleague Patrick Lima. He spoke to her about his new role as a regional sales director (RSD) for Empower Brokerage and invited her to the organization’s roadshow in Indiana. By the end of the roadshow, LaTrice was already switching her agency over to partner with Empower Brokerage. “I felt like I would finally get some guidance. That’s how it impacted me. That was the excitement of that roadshow,” explains Ms. Jeter. “I remember leaving and feeling like this was a blessing. I finally get some help, mentorship, and guidance out here.” LaTrice further details the battles she encountered when she worked with other FMOs. “It is kind of scary when you leave corporate, and you’re on your own, and it’s very quiet,” recalls Ms. Jeter. The Indiana-based agent says that back then, she struggled to figure out systems, processes, and contracting by herself. However, at Empower Brokerage’s roadshow, LaTrice witnessed this organization’s willingness to assist agents with those hurdles. She was also pleased to see the roadshow presentation featured what systems and products agents have available to them.
Once she partnered with Empower Brokerage, LaTrice saw firsthand the independent agency’s difference from other FMOs. She praises Empower’s extensive training tools and the supportive staff. LaTrice appreciates how the organization’s employees always answer agent phone calls or promptly return them. Ms. Jeter also speaks highly of her RSD, Patrick Lima, who has helped her grow her agency. “Patrick has been phenomenal,” says LaTrice. She states that the hands-on director performed a needs analysis to assess her agency’s standing and helped her set goals for the future. Before partnering with Empower, LaTrice had signed up three downline agents to her agency, but since working with Empower and Patrick over the past year, she has brought in four more agents to work under her.
Helping Clients
LaTrice’s dedication to her clients’ insurance education and their well-being has helped her succeed in this industry. While working at promotional events, LaTrice provides visitors with resources and tells them their options. She also discusses the benefits they could qualify for and answers their questions. “Education is the approach that we always take at my agency so [people] can make an informed decision as consumers,” says LaTrice. Talking to potential clients on the phone can be a bit different. Ms. Jeter recommends that agents quickly build rapport when they speak to a lead over the phone. Doing so can be challenging because people often are bombarded with scam phone calls. Those bad actors create a distrust in potential customers. LaTrice says that agents must make the person feel comfortable and explain that they are calling to help them. Additionally, agents should prepare to answer questions about who you are and what you do.
Hobbies, Goals, and Advice
Outside being an insurance problem-solver, LaTrice Jeter enjoys spending time with her daughter and their Shih Tzu. LaTrice also appreciates being active and spending time in nature with multiple pastimes, including camping, fishing, and hiking. She also treasures reading, listening to music, and watching movies.
LaTrice has plans for her agency’s future. For instance, she wants to utilize social media tools to help grow her business. LaTrice says she will continue attending Empower Brokerage’s monthly social media training sessions this year and looks forward to learning more about advertising on social platforms.
Ms. Jeter also wants to continue bringing downline agents into the fold at Simplified Insurance Solutions. When encountering new agents, LaTrice advises them early on with valuable insight. “Join Empower Brokerage, and they will help you grow your book of business, support you, give you tools and resources,” suggests the Indiana agent. “Empower is a one-stop shop when you are looking for an FMO.” LaTrice, who recently took in the 2025 Empower Brokerage roadshow in Indianapolis, Indiana, encourages agents to attend the organization’s roadshows. “Come on out,” declares LaTrice. “You won’t be disappointed.”
