ACA insurance enrollment is to reopen in at least elven different states to offer uninsured Americans another chance to sign up for health plans. Due to the recent developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, states are trying to help ease the potential costs of coronavirus care. As of today, the total number of those affected by the virus is approximately 62,852 with a total of 885 deaths. With no time table on when this special enrollment period will close, agents will want to act fast if they have contacts who are currently without a plan.
Which States is ACA Insurance Enrollment to Reopening In?
The states in which ACA Insurance Enrollment is to reopen are Colorado, Washington, California, Nevada, Minnesota, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maryland, as well as the District of Columbia. Each of these states has a Federally Facilitated Marketplace (FFM), which uses organized marketplace health insurance plans operated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. With nearly 28 million people in the United States braving the pandemic without insurance, those wanting to be tested or treated for the virus could be at more of a risk due to fear of costs. Those enrolling in plans can expect insurance coverage to begin on April 1st.
Are Other Special Enrollment Periods Open?
Twenty-five senators sent a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on March 12, urging to offer a special enrollment period to consumers who depend on Healthcare.gov. “It is imperative for patients to receive covered care, regardless of whether they test positive or negative for the virus,” stated the letter. The government is actively looking for way to help lighten the burden of the coronavirus outbreak. Many will also qualify for special enrollment due to a loss of job-based coverage or relocation.
As we progress further into the pandemic, we may see even more changes. Just last week, the number of states reopening its enrollment was nine.
