ACA Insurance Enrollment is to Reopen in at least eleven different states, to offer those uninsured another chance to sign up for health plans. Due to the recent developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, states are trying to help ease the potential costs of coronavirus care, due to its widespread. As of today, the total number of those affected by the virus number around 62,852 with a total of 885 deaths. With no time table on when this special enrollment period will close, agents will want to act fast if they know clients who might be uninsured currently.
Which States is ACA Insurance Enrollment to Reopening in?
Currently, the states in which ACA Insurance Enrollment is to reopen are Colorado, Washington, California, Nevada, Minnesota, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maryland, as well as the District of Columbia. Each of these states is a Federally Facilitated Marketplace (FFM), which uses organized marketplace health insurance plans operated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. With nearly 28 million people in the United States who do not own an insurance plan, those wanting to be tested or treated for the virus could be at more of a risk due to fear of costs. Those enrolling in plans can expect insurance coverage that will begin April 1st.
Are Other Special Enrollment Periods Open?
Twenty-five senators sent a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on March 12, urging to offer a special enrollment period to consumers who depend on Healthcare.gov. “It is imperative for patients to receive covered care, regardless of whether they test positive or negative for the virus,” stated the letter. Although CMS stated they would not be offering a SEP, they wish for ways to help lighten the burden of the coronavirus outbreak. Many might qualify for a special enrollment for reasons such as job loss that terminates current health coverage, having a baby or getting married.
As we progress further into the pandemic we might see more changes in the option to get healthcare in more states. Just last week the number of states reopening its enrollment was nine. Stay tuned as we continue to bring you more news regarding the virus. If you have been personally affected by the virus or know someone who has, comment below we’d love to hear your story.
