The Insurance Journey of Liz Herrera

In the quiet setting of her Yoga classes, Liz Herrera emphasizes relaxation, physical fitness, and mindfulness to her students. Liz has taught students as a certified Yoga instructor for over 10 years and found her career quite fulfilling. Once she earned her Silver Sneakers certificate, Liz became more in demand as an instructor. After living costs continued rising over the last few years, Liz had to find a way to supplement her income. A good friend recommended she consider selling health insurance. Captivated by the idea, Liz earned her license in May 2023.

After experiencing a challenging AEP that year, Liz learned about partnering with Empower Brokerage. During events around San Antonio, Liz had met their Regional Sales Director Kenna Rickett, and she was intrigued by Kenna’s knowledge of the industry and kindness toward her. When asked how Kenna has benefited her career, Ms. Herrera exclaims,It’s been a total game-changer. Sometimes, I joke with her and call her Mary Poppins. She always has what you need. Kenna goes above and beyond for everybody.

Meeting Kenna Rickett solidified Liz’s decision to join the field marketing organization (FMO), and she quickly found more dedicated Empower Brokerage staff ready to assist her. Since partnering with Empower, Liz has become successful in selling Medicare products and ACA products as well.Even though I am self-employed, I have Empower,said the Philadelphia native.I would not be able to do this without the constant training and everything that goes along with it.

Social media has played a critical role in Liz’s insurance sales success. She has been active on social media throughout her adult life, so she understands the ins and outs of each platform and now uses it to promote both her yoga business and insurance business. Her first step involved creating two Facebook business pages for her separate occupations.I post almost every single day,says Liz.It’s not always [about] selling, but I am very active.In addition to her Facebook business pages, the Alamo City Yoga Instructor has an active Instagram account, a Google Business page, and a LinkedIn account. Her frequent social media activity has paid off. Ms. Herrera explained how one of her friends contacted her through social media about coverage for her mom. Her stable social media posts about diverse topics led to Liz acquiring a new client.

She is also very active in the community, and her attendance at local events significantly drives her sales. With the help of Empower Brokerage, RSD Kenna Rickett, and insurance carriers, Liz has successfully obtained leads by hosting Turing-65 and Medicare 101 events. She also has conducted Lunch-and-Learn trainings, Bingo gatherings, and Back-to-School events. The zealous second-year agent also ensures she always has business cards with her. Her website for her insurance business, Zen Senior Services, has also helped promote her as an advisor in the community.I’m really proud that [my website] links up to my Google reviews, and they are all five-star reviews,says Liz.It’s really important to have a Google My Business page.Ms. Herrera heeds social media advice when she updates her Google My Business page at least once every week with upcoming event information and adds photographs from those gatherings.

Motivation, Goals, and Hobbies

Liz Herrera cherishes working with seniors in the fitness world and now enjoys helping seniors meet their healthcare coverage needs. She understands that bad actors exist out there and will try to take advantage and scam senior citizens or people of any age by signing them up for insurance they neither need nor want.It makes me happy to know that I’m sitting down with people and taking the time to find out what their needs really are and knowing I’m doing right by them,states Liz.

When asked about looking toward the future and pursuing goals, Ms. Herrera says she thinks about having an agency someday. She believes she would be good at motivating and training others to succeed in insurance sales. Liz also says her goal is to construct a bright future with a healthy book of business. This strategy will allow Liz to tend to and nurture her clients and focus on assisting them with their insurance needs and keeping them happy. She would like to get to the point where her community recognizes her name and maybe one day have a billboard with her photo. If she continues her thorough marketing efforts, Liz will become a familiar face in her region and achieve her ambitions. Ms. Herrera has already received positive customer feedback and has developed a good rapport with her clients. Good agents know that client trust can additionally lead to the all-important referrals.

Outside of her dynamic insurance business, Liz enjoys cooking, meal preparation, eating healthy, and gardening. She also treasures her two dogs, who add much joy to her life. As her insurance career blossoms, Liz wants people to know she will go above and beyond to aid those she encounters. She also consistently answers every single phone call that she receives. In doing so, she lets her clients and potential clients know that she is always available to help them with their problems.
