The National Hurricane Center has recently upgraded Hurricane Harvey to a Category 3. Reports say Harvey will make landfall late Friday or early Saturday. The Gulf Coast of Texas faces the most danger. The Gulf Coast of Louisiana and Mississippi will experience the affects of the outer part of the storm. Due to the predictions of the severity, many residents in the path of Harvey are evacuating and taking other precautions. While those in danger make their arrangements, people out of harms way should look to lend a helping hand. Here are a few tips to see what you can do to help.
Donate to Red Cross
The Red Cross prepares for and responds to natural disasters 24/7. Please visit www.RedCross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS, or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Ā Donations provide the funding for Red Cross to provide relief to those affected
Donate Blood
Blood banks are always in need of more blood, even more so following a natural disaster. Contact your local Carter BloodCare to arrange your donation.
Donate to the Texas Diaper Bank
The Texas Diaper Bank is preparing disaster relief kits including baby necessities for those affected. Please visitĀ www.TexasDiaperBank.orgĀ to donate.
Donate to Local Food Banks
If you are in Texas, contact your local food bank to find out what is needed. Because evacuees will be in various parts of Texas, food banks will need additional donations.
More ways to volunteer to help those affected will be clear after damage is assessed. Please stay safe and be on the lookout for updated ways to help after the weekend.
