The Annual Enrollment Period for Medicare is quickly approaching. Beginning Thursday, October 15 and closing Monday, December 7, this is the time period in which Medicare beneficiaries can make changes to their Medicare coverage.
Changes Your Clients Can Make
During the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), Medicare beneficiaries can, for example, switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan. They can switch from a Medicare Advantage plan to a Medicare Supplement plan or vice versa. Medicare Advantage has the same coverage as Original Medicare but most Medicare Advantage plans also offer prescription drug coverage (also known as Part D), along with vision, hearing, and dental coverage. While Medicare Advantage only allows in-network providers, a Medicare Supplement plan allows you to see any doctor that accepts Medicare.
Clients who are already on a Medicare Advantage plan may also switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another to change the benefits. People who are already on a Medicare Supplement plan may do the same and switch to a different Medicare Supplement plan.
Beneficiaries wanting to add Part D for prescription drug coverage or take away the Part D that they are already enrolled in may also do this during this period.
Take Advantage Of This Opportunity
If clients need to make any of these changes to their Medicare plan, make sure to stay on top of the opening and closing dates of the Annual Enrollment Period so you do not miss the opportunity. Make sure that your Medicare plan is exactly what you need to stay on top of your health more effectively.
