For seniors on Medicare, you might be happy with your current plan, but there may also be services Medicare doesn’t cover that you need. Medicare offers many great benefits, such as access to many providers, your inpatient cost covered, stays in skilled nursing facilities, walkers and wheelchairs, and hospice care. Although this covers an umbrella of different services, there are a few things that you might still have to pay for out of pocket. Today we want to bring to your attention to what those services might be!
Vision Care
Vision exams are not covered by Medicare. Do you have glasses? Do you often go to the eye doctor? Your vision helps you not only avoid accidents but helps you stay productive. If you need to visit your eye doctor, your Medicare plan will most likely not cover it.
Hearing Aids
How about your hearing aids? Many seniors suffer from hearing loss and you won’t be able to get the tab picked up by your Medicare plan. It will, however, pay for hearing test if you are suffering from a specific illness or injury.
Dental Coverage
How are your pearly whites looking? You will need to arrange for another method of payment for any cleanings, fillings, or dentures you need. Dentures are expensive and if you want to be able to continue smiling from cheek to cheek, you will need a way to pay for it.
Long Term Care
Long term care should be at the forefront of your mind. Coverage for long term helps pay for in-home health assistants and stays at nursing facilities. A lot of chronic conditions make daily living activities like bathing and dressing difficult without help. If you have original Medicare, this help will come all out-of-pocket.
Services Not Included
Other services not covered by your Medicare plan include:
- Cosmetic surgery
- Acupuncture
- Routine Footcare
What Can you Do?
With all these holes, what can you do to patch up your coverage? What you need is a Medicare Supplement! Also known as Medigap Insurance, the plan helps fill “gaps” in original Medicare. Original Medicare pays for much, but not all, of the cost for covered health care services and supplies. A Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) policy can help pay some of the remaining health care costs, like:
- Co-payments
- Coinsurance
- Deductibles
